When we receive a referral, we will aim to contact a parent or guardian within two weeks.

This is usually by email, so that we can arrange a convenient time to discuss the referral, answer any questions and explain how we may be able to help.

Our assessment process usually takes place over the phone, although we can arrange an online meeting or home visit if needed. During the assessment, we will talk through the referral and ask some questions to help us better understand your family's situation and the caring responsibilities of the young person.

We will also discuss any support that may be available and explain the services, activities and opportunities we currently offer.

Following the assessment, you will receive an email outlining:

  • Any support we have recommended
  • Activities that may be suitable for your young carer
  • Information about our service
  • A copy of our latest weekly newsletter

We will also ask you to complete a health form and, where appropriate, support your young carer to complete a Carers Star assessment.

The health form provides important information that helps us keep young carers safe and ensures we can support them appropriately when attending activities. The Carers Star helps us understand how the young carer feels about different areas of their life and identify any additional support they may benefit from.

Once these forms have been completed, your registration will be complete and your young carer will be able to take part in our activities. We look forward to welcoming your family to our service.
